And so begins our ongoing segment with people Susan LOVES and is INSPIRED BY.
Our first interview is with Janie Korn.
Who are you?
I am a gal with bangs who draws comics (www.kornkomix.tumblr.com). I speak Spanish, love artisanal perfumes, and I won Best Milker at farm camp when I was 13.
Where do you live?
I recently returned to the states after almost two years in Chile. I still dearly miss corner store empanadas and piscolas :( I'm hoping to move somewhere fun soon.
How do you know Susan?
She's my big sis. On our first introduction, two year old Susan looked at my silly-putty face, turned to my parents and advised they make a swift visit to the hospital Returns department. She has since exposed me to the world of hamster bloggers, red lipstick as tool for face camouflage, and taught me that martinis and oysters can be a great square meal.
Favorite thing to eat in the morning?
I'm not very consistent with my food choices, but some past breakfast I have enjoyed quite a lot have been:
-Chicken and Dumpling leftovers served cold and eaten out of the styrofoam container. It is important to note that gravy actually possesses less calories in its congealed form than it does as a liquid.
-A cup of espresso and a toasted cinnamon roll garnished with a dill pickle served to me by my father.
-A perfectly ripe cherimoya fruit, a spoon, and a little cup to use a spittoon for the pits.
Craziest NYC moment?
Mary J. Blige's butt grazed my butt at an event at the Angelika. And no, we didn't )) <---> (( forever and ever, but don't think I didn't consider it.
What time period would you like to be transported?
Rio de Janiero in the 1950's and 60's. If I could just plop right into the making of Black Orpheus, that would be ideal. I'd also love to go to the World Fairs in the late 1800's and the Alhambra in the 14th century, where I imagine I'd snack on figs and oranges from the gardens and then have my feet washed in their cool pools of water.
Song you are listening to right now?
Yesterday I was in a mood, so I alternated Susan Boyle's and Anne Hathway's "I Dream a Dream" for a solid three hours, but besides that I have been listening to a lot of 60's South American New Wave lately. My favorite is the very sexy Argentine Elvis, Sandro. If you like a hairy chest, this is your guy.
What do you want from life?
I want to be around all the people I love and not just miss them from a distance. I want to make art all the time and never run out of inspiration or doubt my work. I want to be like my Mom, who is happy every day because she does what she loves. I want to feel like I'm doing what I'm meant to be and I want people to like that. But most of all, I really want the clothes at J.Jill to come in style because they look insanely comfortable.
