Name: kelsey ryder aka plant lady aka cement lady
Occupation: I make homes for plants & I guess I make shirts now too!
What's your sign?: LEOOO :)
Where were you born: palm harbor, florida
How has this affected your aesthetic? And you as a person: hmm, without disrespecting good ole palm harbor- I truly don't think it has. Most everyone I grew up with and I think even the majority my family from time to time, get really confused by what I do for a living hahaha
Favorite things you own: my dremel, my two taxidermy animals that chill in my studio (Turks and Caicos is a Racoon that's missing all his teeth and I Tristian is a wild turkey), and probably this hair tie that looks like two cherries that my friend Cheyenne brought me from Thailand!!!!
Favorite thing about yourself: I'm on some positive shit!!!!! I pride myself on always giving it my best effort to find anything good in a bad situation and helping others try and find some good too. Life can be so cool if you start directing more attention to the things that benefit your mood, your health, your relationships, your life - and stop making excuses on why you can't pick yourself up, be confident, find even a little bit of positivity and hurdle right on over all that negative thinking. I'm aware that it's all easier said than done, but trying is cool.
What was the last picture you took?: a picture of my little doggie Goldie, who is not little and would definitely be pissed if she knew I called her a "doggie".
How do you deal with the blues?: see positivity rant two questions up^^ lol without sounding like I'm not a real human with feelings (I have a lot of them!!!) - I just don't really get the blues all that much. If I'm bummed with my work, I try something new that day, maybe something a little brighter and happier. If I'm bummed on my body, Ill stay at the gym 15 mins longer. If I'm bummed on any kind of relationship in my life, I go have a beer with them :-)
What did you eat for lunch today?: a jar or cornichons (fancy little pickles) and a sugar free red bull
What is joy for you?: Trying to get better everyday. Trying to be a better friend, daughter, girlfriend, dog friend, eater, listener, advice giver, creator, painter, email writer, business lady, fun haver, just an all around better human.
But also quitting my old job to sell planters that look like chip bags was pretty damn joyful.
Advice for artists who are just beginning?: don't bug out if it's not working (getting all the likes, selling, paying the bills, in a museum lol etc..) just yet. Keep working. Make connections and internet friends! Respect your idols and learn from the smart moves they make, but don't be an asshole and copy them. Listen to your friends when they give you advice, but don't be afraid to go with your gut. You probably got this boo. And don't forget to be nice.
