Today you will meet Chloe, master yoga teacher, dancer, guru and so much more. I first encountered Chloe as a yoga teacher at Yoga Vida. I was enchanted by her intuitive, empathetic and almost psychic knowledge of the body. Her instructions were so detailed and scientific and also-so spiritual and evolved. I followed Chloe to her new, stunning, Pinterest-worthy, light drenched, plant filled yoga studio, Sky Ting in Chinatown. This is my happy place and Chloe-she makes me feel so happy and loved every time I walk in the door. You're going to love her too.
Name: Chloe Kernaghan
Occupation: Co-Founder of SKY TING YOGA, Yoga Teacher, Choreographer
What's your sign?: Sagittarius cubed (sun, moon and ascendent)
Where were you born: Guam
How has this affected your aesthetic? And you as a person: Growing up tropical has definitely given me a more relaxed vibe both in my demeanor and aesthetic, though I will say, living in NYC for 10 years has also taught me how to sharpen. I try and hold on to grandness of island visuals, ocean and skies to the horizon, rich and bright colors, and always leaning towards what feels natural and organic as opposed to artificial. The warmth of the island I think is something that will always stay with me, and what I like to share with those around me.
Favorite things you own: Two porcelain lamps in the shapes of a Japanese scholar and a Geisha. Their shades are funny lace and fringe, I am in a constant state of needing to replace their wiring, and they've moved so many times they have chips... but its all part of their charm and they hit that perfect note of weird and misplaced Asian which feels very me.
Favorite thing about yourself: My powers of observation and listening.
What was the last picture you took?: My newly assembled shoe rack!
How do you deal with the blues?: Sit in a plough pose and breathe, listen to Astral Weeks cover to cover, take a walk towards a body of water and sit.
What did you eat for lunch today?: Dimes Deli yakisoba.
What is joy for you?: Feeling entirely free and yet safe in the expression of myself in any given moment in time and space.
Advice for artists who are just beginning on their journey?: Have a goal, ask for grace, see the larger picture, potentiate it in front of you, drive towards it, put forth effort, have patience, and then make it memory.
