Head of Jewelry Production & Development

Location: New York, NY (On-site)

Reports to: Founder & Creative Director

The Head of Jewelry Production & Development will oversee all aspects of jewelry design, development, sourcing, and production. This role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented leader who can bridge creative vision with operational execution. You’ll work closely with the Founder & Creative Director, manufacturers, artisans, casters, and production partners to ensure that every piece meets the Susan Alexandra quality and craftsmanship standards.

This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, growing fashion brand and brings expertise in jewelry design, production management, and vendor relations. As a senior team member, you will play a key role in shaping the future of the company.

Key Responsibilities

Production Management:

  • Lead and oversee the full jewelry production process—from sampling and sourcing to quality control and delivery.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing vendors and artisans.
  • Identify new manufacturing partners and cost-effective solutions to improve efficiency.
  • Manage production schedules to ensure on-time delivery of collections, reorders, and special projects.
  • Communicate proactively with internal teams and external partners, providing frequent updates on project status.

Design & Development Support:

  • Translate creative ideas, sketches, and concepts into viable, high-quality samples.
  • Advise on materials, feasibility, and cost efficiencies throughout the design process.
  • Uphold consistency in quality and craftsmanship across all jewelry categories.
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive “Jewelry Bible” documenting all materials, components, and production instructions.

Team Leadership:

  • Manage, mentor and inspire the jewelry team.
  • Foster collaboration across departments including design, operations, marketing and sales.
  • Implement and refine systems, workflows and best practices to support growth.

Budgeting & Operations:

  • Track production costs, pricing and margins to align with company goals.
  • Oversee materials sourcing and inventory planning.
  • Help create and maintain budgets and ensure cost transparency across projects.

Qualifications:

  • 5–7+ years of experience in jewelry production or product development.
  • Deep technical knowledge of jewelry materials, manufacturing methods, and finishing techniques.
  • Established relationships with vendors, manufacturers, and suppliers (domestic and international).
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor and grow a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a fast-changing environment.
  • A passion for craftsmanship, creativity, and the Susan Alexandra aesthetic.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A proactive, solutions-driven leader who can anticipate challenges and keep production running smoothly.
  • Someone who balances creative intuition with operational discipline.
  • A collaborative team player who thrives in a dynamic, small-but-mighty brand environment.
