Head of Jewelry Production & Development
Location: New York, NY (On-site)
Reports to: Founder & Creative Director
The Head of Jewelry Production & Development will oversee all aspects of jewelry design, development, sourcing, and production. This role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented leader who can bridge creative vision with operational execution. You’ll work closely with the Founder & Creative Director, manufacturers, artisans, casters, and production partners to ensure that every piece meets the Susan Alexandra quality and craftsmanship standards.
This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, growing fashion brand and brings expertise in jewelry design, production management, and vendor relations. As a senior team member, you will play a key role in shaping the future of the company.
Key Responsibilities
Production Management:
- Lead and oversee the full jewelry production process—from sampling and sourcing to quality control and delivery.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing vendors and artisans.
- Identify new manufacturing partners and cost-effective solutions to improve efficiency.
- Manage production schedules to ensure on-time delivery of collections, reorders, and special projects.
- Communicate proactively with internal teams and external partners, providing frequent updates on project status.
Design & Development Support:
- Translate creative ideas, sketches, and concepts into viable, high-quality samples.
- Advise on materials, feasibility, and cost efficiencies throughout the design process.
- Uphold consistency in quality and craftsmanship across all jewelry categories.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive “Jewelry Bible” documenting all materials, components, and production instructions.
Team Leadership:
- Manage, mentor and inspire the jewelry team.
- Foster collaboration across departments including design, operations, marketing and sales.
- Implement and refine systems, workflows and best practices to support growth.
Budgeting & Operations:
- Track production costs, pricing and margins to align with company goals.
- Oversee materials sourcing and inventory planning.
- Help create and maintain budgets and ensure cost transparency across projects.
Qualifications:
- 5–7+ years of experience in jewelry production or product development.
- Deep technical knowledge of jewelry materials, manufacturing methods, and finishing techniques.
- Established relationships with vendors, manufacturers, and suppliers (domestic and international).
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor and grow a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a fast-changing environment.
- A passion for craftsmanship, creativity, and the Susan Alexandra aesthetic.

Job Title: In-House Painter (Full-Time or Part-Time)
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented In-House Painter to join our team. This role focuses on hand-painting miniatures and creating small-scale models for production and custom projects. The ideal candidate has a strong artistic eye, a steady hand, and experience working with intricate, small-format designs.
Key Responsibilities

Job Title: Bench Jeweler (Full-time / On-site)
Reports to: Senior Director
The ideal candidate has 3+ years of experience in jewelry production, with strong bench jeweler skills, organizational abilities, and attention to detail. This hands-on role involves creating, repairing, and finishing jewelry pieces while maintaining consistency and adhering to the quality standards and craftsmanship that define the Susan Alexandra brand. The candidate should also have experience in vendor and supplier sourcing, with the ability to balance creativity and operational rigor. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability in a fast-paced studio, and excellent time management are essential.

Execute a wide range of bench skills, including assembly, sawing, filing, polishing, and soldering (stone setting and painting skills a plus, but not required).

Follow design specifications, technical drawings, and quality standards to ensure accuracy and consistency across all styles.

Inspect materials and components, report defects, ensure efficient use, and suggest improvements to reduce waste and costs.

Support prototyping and sampling of new designs, collaborating with the design team and studio manager to translate sketches into viable pieces.

Collaborate with the production manager and leadership to meet deadlines, manage priorities, and maintain workflow.

Troubleshoot and problem-solve effectively, adapt as needed, and communicate progress clearly to ensure quality and on-time delivery.

Maintain jewelry tools and equipment, follow SOPs for care and safe practices, and keep a clean, organized workstation.

Be flexible and willing to take on varied tasks in a small production studio environment.
